![]() ![]() Mind Reading: In The Sounds of Nightmares, the Ferryman knew Noone believed she was ill, and was able to figure out Noone's real name all without anyone telling him.In The Sounds of Nightmares, he successfully tricks Noone into giving herself up to the Nowhere. Manipulation: The Ferryman is a skilled manipulator.As seen in the first issue, he was able to change his size and appearance to look like the young Refugee Boy's sister. Shape-Shifting: The Ferryman has the ability to shape-shift.The Ferryman is a patient being, as he ensures to wait for the right time for a child like Noone to fully understand their tormented life is better left behind. This reveals that the Ferryman uses tactics of manipulation in order to entice his victims. Noone concluded that the Ferryman, who she refers to as the Candleman, promised that she would be rid of all ailments and everything that tormented her in her world, if she stayed in the Nowhere. He prefers to speak in riddles, one of which Noone was able to deduce. In The Sounds of Nightmares, the Ferryman presented himself as an enigmatic being who attempted to convince children, particularly Noone, to give themselves up to the Nowhere. He uses his transformation ability to pretend to be a child's dead sister for a prolonged period of time, seemingly because he had a deal with the Wind (as hinted at through the Wind's dialogue). Like the North Wind, the Ferryman seems to like to play games. Even so, the Ferryman still desires to bring these children to the Maw, where they will presumably be turned into meals for the Guests. Rather than screaming and chasing after children when he spots them, he kindly offers them his hand and holds them gently. ![]() The Ferryman is not like most monstrous humanoids seen in the series. His eyes appear to be long slits, and his face dripping and sagging, reminding Noone of candle wax, hence her nickname for him, the Candleman. ![]() Noone describes his face as moving beneath his hat "like soup," with bits and pieces rising and falling. He is described as wearing a long, filthy jacket and a fisherman's hat. In The Sounds of Nightmares, Noone described him as having a presence that reminded her of when the tide went out, the scent of ocean filling a room to mark his presence. He has yellow skin, and his facial skin is sagging down to his chest. Like most monsters in this universe, the Ferryman is gigantic.
